Wichita City Council Passes Clean Air Ordinance

By a 4-3 vote (Brewer, Williams, Longwell & Fearey supporting / Schlapp, Gray and Skelton opposed), the proposed Wichita ordinance was passed on it's 1st reading today. The City of Wichita's legal staff will review the ordinance and make final edits prior to the 2nd reading. The 2nd reading will take place at the first City Council meeting in June; if passed (as is expected), the ordinance would become law after a 90-day waiting period.

TFW has begun the Clean Air Wichita Campaign, an initiative to gain support for a comprehensive clean indoor air ordinance in Wichita. The proposed ordinance would restrict smoking in all workplaces, including restaurants and bars. More than 1,200 have now signed the online statement of support.

You can also request to be put on the Clean Air Wichita mailing list to receive the latest news and monthly TFW Newsletters. If you missed a newsletter, you can find them HERE (coming soon!).

Tobacco Free Wichita is asking the Wichita City Council for a city-wide ordinance that would restrict smoking in all workplaces - including restaurants, bars and areas of indoor recreation.

There are currently 26 cities in Kansas with a clean air ordinance. CLICK HERE to see which cities they are and what type of ordinance they have.
