More on Tar Wars: Tar Wars was founded in response to this growing, yet preventable, health crisis -tobacco. Targeting fourth and fifth-grade students, the award-winning, youth tobacco-free education program and poster contest is sponsored by the KAFP, the state chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). Tar Wars adopts an effective and innovative approach to teaching tobacco prevention. The program focuses on the short-term, image-based consequences of tobacco use and helps kids think critically about tobacco advertising. A follow-up poster contest at the state and national levels is conducted to reinforce the Tar Wars message.
